Winter for the books

Hi all! Sorry for the lacking in my posting. I've been busy, and then we went to Disney for week (much needed sun!). As I stated in the last post, my camera was having "a moment." But I'm back!  Billy fixed my camera, although neither of us know how.

The Thursday/Friday before we left for The Sunshine State we were supposed to get the hit with the outside of a weather system off the coast. 2-4 inches they said. It will change to rain, they said. At most, Worcester area will get 6 - 8 inches, they said. Well, as we all know that didn't happen. 2 - 4 inches, turning to rain turned into 24 inches and snow for 36 hours. It was lovely.  That actually ins't the point of the blog, well, yea it kind of is.

The day before the 2 feet fell, Billy and I took a ride down to Hull, Cohasset, Scituate and along the coast to take some pictures of the surf. They were warning residents to evacuate 3 hours before high tide along the coast due to the high flood risk. These people had to live through 4 high tides, and that would age me 14 years in itself. But actually seeing it, was crazy. So high tide on Thursday morning was between 7 and 8 am. We were driving down around the coast at 11:30, so a good three hours after the tide was highest. I have never seen the ocean so angry. It reminded me of the bad days that they have on "The Deadliest Catch."

The wind was also howling and it was raining ice so taking pictures was hard at some points. Our lenses were fogging up and getting soaked. But we got some good photos. Have yourself a little look see!

This was in Cohasset by the Atlantica. If the photo was wider, the restaurant would be all the way to to left. You can see the sand blowing over the little hill. It looks like little scratches.

See if you can follow me here: between the two small columns there is what looks like just regular bubbles from the ocean. That is foam. All foam, that was blowing all over the road. Really cool looking. Like a bubble bath at the edge of the sea.

The Legend at work. You can see his jeans blowing all over the place.

This is where the foggy lens comes in. We only had like 15 seconds before the fog and less if we were shooting into the rain/snow/ice so the clarity isn't fabulous, but look at those waves. The ocean was angry that day.

This was in Scituate.  A little right of the center you would be able to see the Lighthouse, if it weren't a monsoon. Billy got a shot with the outline of it.

This is facing the opposite direction of the shot just above. The wind and ice was so intense, you really couldn't shoot that way without the proper protective equipment, which I do not have. Also, keep in mind, this is a good 4 hours after High Tide and the water is still pretty high.

I kinda love this picture. Billy took it from the car. Notice the camera strap ready to blow away!

Check back later this week for the first of the Disney Posts! Try not to be jealous :-)

Cheers!

We found Nemo!

Is everyone all dug out? That was some storm! For those of you who don't know, we live up on a huge hill, in a condo complex that has one road in and one road out. Normally they do a fabulous job plowing and shoveling but this time, not so much! I don't know if it's because there was SO much snow and they just had too much to do, or what, but it's been 3 days since the snow stopped and the 1 road is pretty much still only 1.5 lanes wide. Not so safe. Or fun.

It was pretty bad Friday Night/Saturday Morning. We lost power for almost a day and it wasn't too bad at all, except it started getting a little cold as the sun started to set again on Saturday.  We were with our neighbors trying to figure out what to cook. The grill is an obvious option, but when the grill is frozen shut, cheese and crackers make a do.  Finally it came back on, and the driving ban was lifted, so we had the BRILLIANT idea (along with every. other. person.) to go out to an open restaurant. The roads were horrible, service was slow because of the (not joking) 3 people working to serve about 100 in the Chinese Restaurant we were at.

Sooo, with me being an aspiring photographer, you would have thought that I would have photographed the storm. You would think. Until the Auto-Focus stopped working on the camera. Major Bummer. Then it got super snowy and I didn't want to risk it getting wet. Then we lost power, and I couldn't charge my phone or else there would have been a slew of cell phone pictures.  BUT I did take some so here they are!!

My Hunters that I had yet to wear from Christmas. If you do not have a pair, invest NOW!

My mom knit me an Infinity Scarf, but the yarn was a bit chunky, so it doesn't fall quite right, BUT it is perfect for a snow storm, because you can wrap it over your head then around your neck. I love it.

Who needs a fridge, when you have a foot of snow to keep beverages chilled!

This is from the trek from the back condos, to ours. It took us 15 minutes to to about 250 feet. Kinda fun though.

Finn's new friend, Jo.

Buddy, trying to find a good spot.

The grill. That once we cleared off, found out it was frozen shut. Oh well.

Sunset, so pretty.

Finn, exhausted after trouncing in the snow!

If you are not cleared out, or have no power still, good luck with everything! Let's hope this next "storm" we are getting on Thursday doesn't add to the problems.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Oh Hello!

Oh Hello There! How is everyone today? I'm sitting on my couch and it has started to flurry outside. I really want a big snow storm. Although it seems like we have all turned into big babies and hate the snow. But this IS Boston, and it IS February. I love snow. I'd love it even if I was working and had to commute to Waltham. I always have. I saw on Facebook (really reliable place for news) that we could get a storm Friday, but I'll believe it when I see it!

Last week I took Lu-lu on a drive with me -- much to her dismay; "I don't like rides. I want to go home and watch my show." -- But lucky for her, the ride ended with a trip to Panera and Broccoli Cheddar Soup. Yum! Anyways, I saw Blue Hills on Chronicle some time a while ago, and have been meaning to drive through.  It was very cold, and the little one didn't really have the proper jacket (Babysitter of the year, right here!) so we couldn't walk around for too long.  So that means only a few shots. But that's ok. Now I know I definitely want to back up and maybe go on a short hike, sans 3 year old.

The sun was in her face so she asked to wear my sunglasses. She's 3 going on 21. Love the little diva.

Despite the cold, we had to take a turn on the swings. The thing about a park in the winter, we had the whole thing to ourselves. I just wish she had a heavier jacket. We would have stayed all day!

Freezing Pond.

Thanks for checking in. Ta-Ta for now!

1 Month Down (Almost)

Hello there everyone! It's been almost a month since I have been laid off, and I have to say I am enjoying myself. But not in the lazy I'm not doing anything but sitting on my butt and collect unemployment thing. I could count on one hand how many time I have not changed out of my PJ's since I've been home. I started working out, doing Yoga (and I am hooked!) and have set certain goals for myself. The first one was that I would take more pictures. And I have! I have taken my camera with me pretty much every time I leave the house.  Also, because I am babysitting Little Lu-Lu, it gives me the opportunity to take her to the park, and maybe take the long way to hit up a photo op.

GingerPics Etsy Shop (click on it, go ahead, you know you want to!) has added 7 new photos available for purchase, and I plan on so many more in the upcoming months. I even sold THIS ONE the day I listed it! You guys have been such a great support system, and I can't thank you enough. I always loved my family and friends, but I appreciate you more now than ever.

More pictures to come, so stay tuned!!

You can buy this one HERE!!! ANNNDD it comes with a White Mat that looks fabulous in ANY New England Home :-)

Little More Nature

Happy Friday everyone! It is so frigid here right now, I swear I have been cold for a week straight. We haven't had the heat on this much, like ever. The electric bill is probably going to double this month. My dad would just tell me to put another sweatshirt on. But when I already have 2, and I'm sitting under 2 blankets and drinking hot chocolate, I think it's fine to turn it up, just a bit. I really wanted to out again this week, but I don't have a decent pair of gloves, and when the mercury hasn't risen above 15*, that is an issue. Next week, I promise!

Well, last week, I went down to Scituate, and while it was chilly, it was beautiful. The sky was so blue and there was just enough crisp in the air. I left feeling so refreshed. I love Scituate. It is my dream town to live in. Seaside, New England Charm, Small (but not too small), and just a small drive to a lighthouse (my weakness). Oh yea, and I got married there, NBD :-)

I was leaning over in my car to change my shoes and saw that I parked at the perfect angle to get the Lighthouse in my mirror. I love how this came out. I had no idea it would look this great!

I have put some of these on my Etsy for sale HERE!!!!!! As always, if you see something you like, and it isn't for sale on GingerPics for Etsy, just e-mail me and I will magically make it appear. I promise once the weather gets into normal numbers (the weatherman said it was warmer in Alaska, what is UP with that?!?!) I will venture out and find some hidden gems around the South Shore.

Have a great weekend and thanks for reading!

A Little Bit of Nature, Pt. 1

Hi all! It's been a pretty nice week here but today (Friday) the chill came to town. It's like 19* out right now. At least that's what Maxie (My Car) told me. Brrrrrr! I have been really busy since I have been without Job. And I LOVE IT! I've really only had 1 lazy day and considering I am pretty lazy, that is pretty good! My neighbor is dragging me to Yoga tomorrow morning. I'll be sure to let you know how that goes, considering I have worked out maybe 4 times in the past year.

Anyways....Let's get back to the topic at hand. Since I have no clients lined up until the spring, I needed some inspiration to keep the camera in my hand.  I figured since I live near so many beautiful things, I would just head outside and start snapping! These are a few of the shots that I have taken and I will be sharing more in the next few days. I was going to head out again today, but I didn't have gloves and that is kind of a must when my breath is freezing as soon as it exits my mouth.

Here are some of my favorites!

These first 5 are from the woods behind my condo. I went out one night right before dusk.

I love the light in this one. It looks like the wood is on fire.

This is from a SUPER gloomy/rainy/cold day at Nantasket. I brought the little girl I baby sit for down there and we were the only ones there. It was really nice.

After that trip to Nantasket, LuLu fell asleep in the car, and I took the long way home and went up to Great Hill in North Weymouth. I haven't been up there in probably 15 years. But you get a great view of the city. I can't wait to go back on a clear day.

A Snowy Nantasket: It had snowed (obviously) and again, I just drove around down by the beach. This is one of my favorites from that day. You can buy it here (BUY ME!!!

Those are just a few from the past week or so. I am going to post some more, so stay tuned, stay warm and GO PATS!!!!

New Year!

Happy 2013 everyone! I honestly can't believe it's already the new year. I know everyone says that as you get older the years go by faster, but 2012 was in warp speed! I can only hope that 2013 will be just as good or better than 2012. It was a good year. One thing I am going to concentrate on a little more (with a little help and encouragement from hubby) is being better to myself. I tended to overindulge last year, and while it was fun, I know I can be more disciplined in so many aspects of my life (eating, drinking, staying up late, not doing laundry)

Ok, well, since this isn't a lifestyle blog, lets leave that at that :-) Since the Holidays are over and Christmas Cards are finished (did I mention I had 8 cards hanging up of photos that I took?!?!?! That is a pretty cool feeling!), I thought I would challenge myself to improve my photography with some personal challenges and goals. I literally just thought of this idea on my drive into work this morning so I am still trying to think of ideas that will interest me, and still be interesting to read about.

Living in New England there are so many opportunities to take great shots of so many things! Soooooo I will be sure to keep you posted on what I decide to do. I can't get my mind off of a nature series, so I think I might just roll with that. I have made a promise to myself to go out for a walk this weekend bringing only some coffee or cocoa and my camera. Inspiration is only right outside and I can't wait to see what I can capture.

Boston Public Garden, 2011

Stay tuned :-)
